Tierrasanta-San Diego Community and Real Estate Information in California

Tucked amid the tawny mesas of outlying San Diego, the "island in the hills" community of Tierrasanta is nearly picture-perfect—and residents plan to keep it that way. Once part of a thriving 19th-century mission in proximity to Mexico, the Spanish-translated "holy land" was later built up as Camp Elliott. The camp was home to and served as the training grounds for thousands of sailors and marine personnel and was annexed into San Diego in 1960. The population of Tierrasanta today makes up less than five percent of San Diego's 1.25 million total inhabitants.

Tierrasanta is bordered by Highway 52 and Marine Corps Air Station Miramar to the north, Mission Trails Regional Park to the east, Interstate 15 to the west, and the San Diego River and Admiral Baker Golf Course to the south. The suburban neighborhood's orderly, well-cultivated appearance – a result of city planners' careful design – complements the natural beauty of the area.

Nearby 5,800-acre Mission Trails Regional Park is one of the largest civic parks in the country. The park offers residents some 40 miles of networked hiking, biking and equestrian trails and facilities for camping, along with opportunities to learn about local plant and animal life. For more contemporary recreation, the community's fully equipped recreation center gives Tierrasantans access to fitness, sports and swimming facilities as well as public space for picnics and workshops.

Though Tierrasanta has both nature and culture in its backyard, the community prides itself on its family focus. Eight schools and a library serves the area, enabling youths to one day keep Tierrasanta's prosperity alive. Tierrasanta real estate is diverse and affordable. Spacious condominiums and townhouses and thoughtfully designed single-family homes complement the area's striking natural landscape.
